Responsibilities include providing administration, technical support, system maintainence, and operations support of the backup servers and storage devices.
The specifics include entering commands on computers, tape drives, and data storage equipment;
Establishing that the data storage devices are functioning and interfacing with vendors as necessary;
Researching data storage equipment error messages;
Tests, evaluates, and resolves problems and system outages, and escalates issues as necessary;
Maintaining audit trail of job activities and status to document productivity and maintain quality records;
Takes media storage devices in and out of service as required, and assists in resolving media storage hardware-related problems in the data center, coordinating the movement of equipment and assests in order to maintain production.
Orders tapes, loads, and supports customer data file restores to ensure timely completion of restore requests.
Ensures stable performance for the storage environment through performance monitoring and tuning.
